How Do I Cope with Things Outside of My Control?

Anxiety and negative thoughts arise when you worry about the things that are outside of your control. The antidote to this negative, self-defeating thinking pattern is learning how to let go of the things that are outside your control so you can learn how not to waste your own energy on things that will not produce positive results.

Imagine a roleplaying game. The world is moving and living.

Some things are controllable - you have your physical actions, your responses, your beliefs, your thoughts.

Some things are outside your control - the fact that the dragons that exist, the flow of the river, magical energies running through the planet, the glow of the stars, a plague spreading

Some things are influenceable - your hair, your gear, the animals grazing in your farm could be shooed away, the distraught neighbor could be soothed, the bandits that harass travelers, and what you do about that dragon that exists

The big question here is how much energy do you want to devote to making a change

- People's actions, or inactions, are their own. You *can* influence them. Do you want to? Is that how you want to spend your limited game-time?
- Or, you could work on YOU. How do you respond to their actions? What do you do about the dragon - Befriend it? Train it? Attack it?
- If all you're trying to do is **cope**, then that's all you can do. But if you really want to change something - you have to decide how much are you willing to devote to it.

Questions to ponder:
What items and loot (crap?) do you pick up? And, what's your intention for them?
What quests are you taking on? And, what's your intention for them?

I help geeks, gamers, and creatives to have more confidence and motivation.
