Use What You Already Have to Solve Problems Now
And stop wasting more time, money, and energy
Hey there, Growth Seeker!
Welcome to another edition of "Self-Development with AI," where I help you empower yourself with proven frameworks and AI-driven tools to transform your life.
This week, let's dive into a technique that I learned from Mike Mandel- one of the world's best hypnotists and master NLP trainers. It's called "Resource and Limitation Matching" and it'll help you solve your problems using what you already have. The name is long and cumbersome, so we'll call it "Resource Matching."
I almost went with the “MacGyver method.”
Let’s get started.
What Does it Mean to be Resourceful?
Resourcefulness is the hero's greatest ally; with a sharp mind and a courageous heart, no obstacle is insurmountable.
In Neuro-Linguistic Programming (NLP), there's a presupposition that everyone already has all the tools they need to achieve the desired results.
A presupposition is a mindset that you bring into a situation in advance- and if you expect it to work out well for you, it often does. If we already have what we need to solve our problems, then that means that if someone else can do it, you can too! We might need to develop some skills or stretch ourselves, but we’re likely closer than we believe.
The challenge is that people often don't know what their resources are or how to use them effectively.
We tend to limit our mindset and vision to one specific solution, trying to make it work for all situations, which isn’t always effective.
How to Apply “Resource Matching”
Here’s how you can start applying this method in roughly 30 minutes:
List All Your Limitations: Spend time identifying and listing all the limitations and problems you currently face.
List All Your Resources: Identify all the positive things and resources you have, whether they are experiences, skills, people, money, or items.
Match Resources to Limitations: Connect each resource to a limitation it can solve. This helps you realize which problems you can already address with what you have.
These steps are deceptively simple because just recognizing your challenges can be the first step to unlocking new opportunities and sparking excitement in your life. Discovering and acknowledging your skills, connections, and assets allows you to make the most of what you already have. This leads to greater satisfaction and success. And by connecting the dots between your resources and your challenges, you can effectively solve problems, achieve goals, and continuously grow and improve.
A few weeks ago, I was trying to think of a new product or a way to help more people and make more money. I was wracking my brain trying to think of new angles and innovative solutions.
Then I used “Resource Matching.”
One of the resources I found was my subscription to a newsletter called Write with AI. This quickly became the core resource that allowed me to confidently create my newsletter, Self-Development with AI, by modeling their genius style and approach of teaching a skill and then providing a helpful chatGPT prompt to speed up the processes and make it easier.
Success leaves clues, and the solution was literally right in front of me.
Practical Steps for Continued Use
One problem I've noticed from over a decade of coaching is that most of us don't track our progress well enough.
Daily reflection helps us stay motivated and grateful for the good things in our life. It also helps us notice bad habits and little problems before they get out of hand.
Make “Resource Matching” a daily practice with these actionable tips:
Daily Reflection: Spend a few minutes each day listing any new problems and resources.
Resource Identification: Regularly review and update your list of resources.
Problem-Solving: Frequently match resources to new problems as they arise.
These steps help ensure that you continuously utilize your resources effectively, leading to more efficient problem-solving and personal growth.
